Made the MyMIT yesterday, will they still assign me an EC?

So for the interview it is still showing:

Please note: it can take up to 20 minutes for the system to assign you to an Educational Counselor. At that time, you will need to log out and then log back in to see your assignment. Please contact your EC to schedule an interview as soon as possible thereafter. Thank you!

It’s been 24 hours, so do they usually take longer than 20 minutes to assign someone or will they not give me someone now because the deadline has passed?

Do you really think that MIT is staffing the office on Christmas, just in case someone who missed the deadline wants an interview?

says the ‘system’ doesn’t that mean they will automatically give me someone based on my school or location?

In my area ECs are assigned by high school. The deadline, however, for contacting your EC to arrange an interview was some number of days ago. It is up to the individual EC as to whether they will accept a request for an interview.

No. The deadline for contacting the EC was December 10. Since you can no longer contact the EC, it would make sense that they will not assign you an EC.

okay, do you know if they will label the interview section for me as waived or declined?

Why would they mark it as waived? They didn’t waive it. You were late in applying.

The deadline was over 2 weeks ago, so unfortunately, you won’t get an interview and cannot get one.

You still have a chance to get in, but I think on MIT’s website, it says 1% admit rate for people who don’t interview and 10% who interview. These statistics don’t include people who had their interview waived (which only happens if there is not a alumni near your area).

Yes, the deadline for contacting your EC for an interview was December 10. If a candidate contacted me after that date and I could find time to conduct the interview and write the report, I would. I would also be sure to include the info about the late scheduling in the interview report.

@HPuck35 if I know who the EC in my area is, can I contact them directly. like without being assigned him on the MyMIT account?

You don’t know who your EC is. You know who an EC is.

There is a fine line between showing initiative and being pesty. If a student decided to pester me about having an interview when he was the one who missed the deadline, I would let the admissions office know about that. The email would not be flattering to said student.

Many people are away over holidays, or have visitors.
