How common is it for an incoming college student to make up their essays or exaggerate most of their experience?

Bumping. Anyone?

Hm. That’s a really good question. I know a few who have done so (lying about sports achievements and extra-curricular activities and the like), but I haven’t done so myself and there’s no way to tell if those who claim not to have done so are lying or not, so I don’t know how you’d get any reliable information on this. Are you just curious, or do you need to know this for something?

No, I’m just curious. I know of a few people who lied and made up their essay- everything to being in Hurricane Katrina! I wanted to see how many other people have gotten away with the same process.

I personally don’t know, but if you’re thinking of doing it I would say, would you like to attend a college knowing you didnt really earn it, with people who did?

Many people exaggerate their experiences… all lies stem from some from of truth… however far away that truth is. However, flat out lying, i think is much harder don’t you think? making up your whole essay from scratch. I think many do stretch the truth do some degree.

Exactly… If you lie your essay is just going to end up worse.
