I'll be entering GW for the 2009-2010 school year and I am very heavily considering Madison Hall for my dorm. For a while I was considering Thurston and Potomac, but Potomac just seems too much like a hotel, and I heard Thurston is old and smells like vomit. I was just wondering if anyone can just tell me more about Madison like the room styles, pros and cons, and the overall atmosphere there. Also if you guys would recommend picking a roommate or going in random assignment. Thank You!!!

I’ve only heard great things about Madison and it is going to be a freshman dorm so it would be a great way to meet people. I put in for Potomac after seeing their rooms, clean, big and new. You’re right, Thurston wasn’t for me either. As far as room mates, I don’t know anyone yet so I couldn’t list a room mate preference. I think I’ll just go for the random pick bc I’m open to meeting new people anyway…you know, add to the college experience and stuff.

If cost is a factor - I think Madison and Potomac are $9100 and Thurston and the Vern dorms are $6720.

Doubles and triples in Thurston will be the same price as doubles in Potomac and Madison. It’s only the fives and sixes in Thurston that are cheaper. And you may not get to be in the five or six room. My D lives in Thurston, and though it is old, I do not particularly notice a smell of vomit when I visit.

I <3 Madison!! I live there right now…well I move out in a few days…aw I’m going to miss Mad! Personally I think it’s the best freshman dorm, but I’m biased :)

As far as roommates, I would suggest going in random. Most people do. If you have problems, you can switch rooms. I know a lot of people pick roommates on Facebook, but that often doesn’t work out (as cool as they seem on the internet).
