Mail

So how many have been forunate enough to get a letter frm your Basic Cadet. I have resorted to sending her Self Addressed Stamped envelopes with paper inside. Next week we will begin writing questions down on the letters. Could just be the mail…but that first letter will be a God Send.

We havent gotten any mail yet. But last night during the fireworks to upperclassmen called to tell us D was doing great and they had her yell hello into the phone. She sounded so happy to be there. We feel blessed to have heard that and really appreciated the calls. What a great Fourth!!!!!

Nothing yet here but as I stated on another thread herein we were blessed to have son's USAFA athletic coach email us some recent photos of "baldy" along with a note that he's doing great.

Waiting for an actual post office style letter could take a while. With their lack of cel phone and internet access, I'm not sure the kids remember how to actually use thier fingers to write on paper (vs texting/emailing), add a stamp to an envelope, etc :-)

Hanging in there!

nothing yet from my D. Would have enjoyed that upper classmen calling and hearing a yelled "hi". Oh well, nonetheless sounds like they enjoyed last night and I will be following my mailman around everyday until he coughs up the requisite letter!!!

We receive a letter from our son on Tuesday that he had written on Friday night. Before he left, I gave him a package of self addressed stamped envelopes. Later I heard they wouldn't be able to keep them but some how he got them in. He conveyed that he was getting better at different things like marching and eating correctly. He also said he had two roommates! One is a prep school grad so room inspections should be less stressful (my words, not his) unless the expectation is higher for prep school grads. Anyway....is was great to hear from him.
I have seen him in two pictures and on the new video just posted by WebGuy.

INTERCEPTORS families- Check out AOG Gallery 36. Lot's of pictures of our young adults!

Just received a long letter from my dear son! It was written while waiting for the Computer Science placement exam to be over. He dated it August 1. I will assume that it was written July 1 and that he is just out of his mind. ( :

A few remarks -

"My flight's cadre are very strict but they seem to be actual humans - maybe.
Their character and excellence can be observed with ease."

"I am glad I am here, but it is very seldom 'fun' and that is a very generous statement."

"God has blessed me with a laugh here and a bit of rest there, so I praise him for that."

Tomorrow, the cadre get 'cadre tools'. I think that means we will have to drop and do pushups and flutter kicks and stuff."

And "Oh Goody, another day in which to excel!"

I hope all of you get a letter soon. It is a joy to hear directly from our dear children.

Congrats to all who have received letters and or a "hello". It does help. Hang in there those that are waiting. We're hoping for a letter for you all today! I think son wrote his letter last Thursday since we received it on Monday. As they say "It all depends on the squadron". Just opened Webguy page up and saw son on latest video clip of Flying Tigers (second in line). What a joy!

Lines from letter - "It is very hard here and I have had to adapt quickly...but I would not want to be anywhere else."

Made this mom feel better. <g></g>

Received first letter today. It was postmarked 7/2. In his letter he said he hadn't received any mail yet, but not to ask. I was mailing letters before he even left so who knows what he's already gotten himself into! He says he "always tired, hungry, sweaty, frustrated, and slightly nervous. I am, however, enjoying myself!" He always was a glutton for punishment.

We got 3 letters today dated June 29, 30 and July 1st. On each letter
he was more encouraged and peaceful. He likes his flight and the cadre
and thought they had one of the best groups. He has one room-mate
who he said is a wondeful guy. He also said this was by far the hardest
thing he has done ;-)
I think all the basics would agree on that. It was a joy to get the letters
and see the change and growth daily.

Update - just got 1st letter from son. He too wrote it during the computer placement exam. Without any prior programing courses I guess he considered it easy to blow off. Letter said 90% of the same things y'alls did. Tougher than he expected, always on guard for a cadre question, he's tired, thinks he's been there a month vs a week, cadre about to start the pushups, keep the mail coming but not to include an photos/candy, etc. All in all he sounds OK.

No mail for me yet. Haven't see a photo of her since 6/29 dates either. She must be camera shy! Lots and lots of Jaguar photo's today but none of D. Oh well - next time. I'll be stalking the mailman again tomorrow. By now she should have received the SASE and paper to return a quick note - so perhaps tomorrow.

Dknightfam - "keep the mail coming but not to include an photos/candy, etc."

Oops, I have been printing out fun family photos and glueing on the fronts of cards just so he will have a reminder of home and to make the cards for interesting - better than a picture of a butterfly or something.

Hornetguy or Guy4Christ or anyone, do you know if I will be getting him into trouble?

MomofHopeful - I was glad to see those bright blue lanyards, but I didn't find my son either.

I figure they split the squadrons up into smaller groups for a reason. Flight A B C & D are not likely to be together all the time - in our case 37, 38, 39, 40 are splitting up and some groups are probably more apt to be photographed. Guess my D's group is in hiding all the time - as is your sons!

Recieved letter today also. D is doing great!! She said alot of marching mostly and remembering things. Feet hurt bc of always on her feet all day long. Also wrote after computer placement testing . Must have been the day to write. She had not been able to check her mail either. Could have a back log of mail waiting for her. hahahaha!! Just great to finally hear from her directly. Here's hoping you all get mail soon !!!

No mail here either but thanks so much for the word from your sons and daughters.

Our son also wrote during the Computer Science Placement- he said he thought it was a better use of time, since he had never had any class on
computer science- I guess there is some benefit to going to a school that did not offer those courses. We get letters :-)

patriotmom- Most likely he'll just get to look in the mailroom, then turn them in to his cadre. Probably not a big deal unless they are very very bored that day. :)

"Cadre tools" are the ability to drop them almost anytime (except mealtimes, bedtime, etc.) for approved exercises like push-ups, flutter kicks, etc.

I recieved a letter from redhead today. I had sent her one before she inprocessed so it was in there the first day they checked. She is doing well, but getting in trouble A LOT! I was laughing hard throughout, but she sounds very happy. Good to hear. :) She was horrified at B&B to learn that she had my B&B family from a year ago. They said her "reputation preceded her." Then they let her know that I had fed them info before she arrived. :) Small world. She was then horrified to see my name in the mail, but I didn't do anything this time to get her in trouble. Next one will be pink with cologne. :) What fun!

I saw a VERY redheaded (caught my attention, it stuck out) young woman today while I was down on the athletic fields helping out a few cadre teammates of mine direct the cross country intramurals on where to go for their race...could that be redhead? I think she had a maroon jersey on.

her lanyard is maroon, and it looks like the lanyards are actually following the field day color jerseys this year. Maybe?
