Mailings from Colleges

Hey. I'm a rising junior, and I wanted to know how often many former-juniors got mailings from schools during their junior-year. Today I got my first letter from Washington University in St. Louis, which said they wanted to send me a "College-Planner" and picker. Did anyone else get this today?

I got some mailings during my sophmore year after I took the PSAT's--that is where they come from, if you have decent scores they'll send mail to you. I'd take it all with a grain of salt though...

Welcome to the wonderful world of college propaganda :p

As soon as you take your PSAT's, you will receive college mail pretty much everyday, as many as seven letters a day, not to mention the emails that flood your inbox! As a rising senior who pretty much knows where she's going to apply, I still get a ton of irksome mail ranging anywhere from Harvard and Yale to places that i've never heard of with average SAT scores of 900. They will send you personalized letters, viewbooks, postcards, and yes, even applications. But just because a college sends you mail doesn't mean you'll get in, or even that they're interested in you - basically, they just saw your PSAT scores on collegeboard.com and included you in a mass mailing of 200,000 letters, lol.

Right after you take the psat they'll start rolling in. :p

Welcome to your first mailing from Wash U. You will receive about 200 more, but you will be rejected if you apply. (only half kidding)

Hahahahahahaha

Actually, Wash U waitlists everybody. Everyone from my school who's ever applied got waitlisted.

If you attend a college fair and fill out cards requesting mailings, you'll start getting things sooner.
