Main Essay vs. Short Answer?

Hi, I was trying to get the opinions of others on this subject. I have written my personal statement about an experience that helped me gain confidence. This was within my sport of swimming, but I did not give much background on the sport as a whole. I did not use it for the short answer because I wanted to make sure I seem multi-dimmensional.

For my ec short answer, I at first wrote something about an art volunteering experience. However, I simply don't like it very much. Though I enjoy the volunteering, it does not comprise a large amount of my time, and it is difficult to draw any major lessons from the experience. I was also worried that it might seem cliche, or look unusual because it is not my most important extracurricular.

Would it be better to leave the essay as is, or write one about swimming instead?

I don’t think that everything on your application should be about swimming… unless you’re going to be a recruited athlete in that sport. However, if you show different sides of that very important EC, then you should be fine. I just wouldn’t recommend you writing your personal statement about the exhilaration you feel when swimming and then your EC short answer about the same thing… Maybe about a different part of the sport not explored in your personal statement.

I ended up just using the art volunteering one, and editing it a lot to make it better. It’s submitted now, but thanks for the advice anyway.
