Can any current student (2020 or 2021 batch) shed some light on how are majors allocated. The document https://advising.engineering.osu.edu/sites/advising.engineering.osu.edu/files/uploads/Admission_To_Major/engineering_major_application_information_su2015-sp2016.pdf says that 3.4 GPA is required for Mechanical and 3.2 for Computer Science. Is this absolute minimum required? Is anybody having lower GPA have chance of getting highly sought after Majors? What is the minimum (typical) for Computer Science and Mechanical?
Thanks
You can apply to both Mechanical and CS. You just have to decline admission to the major you will not pursue.
“If you are admitted to multiple major programs, you can only accept admission to one major program during this admission cycle. You must notify the programs you no longer intend to pursue that you are declining the admission offer. This will not negatively affect any future applications you submit to these programs if you change your intended major. By notifying these departments you allow other students to receive offers of admission.”

https://advising.engineering.osu.edu/sites/advising.engineering.osu.edu/files/uploads/Admission_To_Major/engineering_major_application_information_su2018-sp2019.pdf (an updated version of what you have above) lists the historical average gpa of some majors, like for ME "In 2016-2017, 35% of entering class admitted below 3.4 EPHR. Students applying below 3.4 EPHR may need to submit supplemental information with their application. No students accepted below 2.8 EPHR. " Or for CSE “CSE does not admit students below the guaranteed admission critera.”
