I think there is a general consensus that engineering is one of the most competitive majors to apply to, with a lot of students having higher gpas and standardized testing scores, along with strong ECs. Can anyone else tell me what other majors at extremely difficult/competitive to declare. Specifically, could anyone tell me if the candidate pool for a neuroscience major is more or less competitive than engineering.
I would say engineering and computer science are always considered competitive majors (especially when you are applying to schools with a well-acclaimed engineering program). It honestly does depend on school.
For some schools, you apply to the entire university and can easily change your major once you’re there. This might be a good option if you’re undecided.
With engineering, not necessarily so. Some schools accept a wide swath of kids – knowing that inherently, there’s a good amount of washout-- Not a bad thing per se. Some kids bloom later and really find themselves in a groove once college starts.
