Okay I have a couple of questions:
- I’m junior, and I don’t know exactly how to apply for college yet. So I want to know: if you apply for a college, do you only put in one major? Or can you at least put a second as a back up?
- I’m interested in the business field since I have experience in it and I enjoy it. But also, I love exploring other cultures and would love to travel and do business around the world. I’m around the (marketing/ international business major IG?) But I also want to learn more about cultures in Asia, or do business over there. I am currently taking Japanese, next year will be my 3rd year of taking it. So what should I pick as a major based on my interests; and what exactly is it called?
Anybody know how many a Cal state will let you apply?
Picking a major is sort of college dependent but usually you do pick a major and a secondary one. You can also apply undeclared but if you do and you college has separate ‘schools’ you will be in the College of Arts & Science, which may not contain a business major, Business is sometimes in a separate school and so is Engineering commonly. But some are all in one and declaring a major isn’t as hard later as it may be to move between schools.
Even if you choose a business major, international business, finance or marketing you will still have 1/2 to 2/3rd classes to take in general studies requirements and electives. You can definitely continue to study a language and take Asian cultures courses even if you don’t major in it.
Some colleges have a global studies major like this, where you take some Econ, poly sci, statistics, foreign language, world culture and anthropology. This seems up your alley and would give you a very good broad education base, with useful specific coursework.

So when you look at a college website, look at the list of majors. Look how the college is organized by dept. Pay attention to what sort of general ed requirements they have. Many people work in business who did not major in business. Look for other interdisciplinary majors that might interest you too.
