Is there a major that is recommended for pharmacy? Because as of now, I am wanting to major in phamaceutical sciences and maybe biochemistry...

These majors are fine if you are planning on pursuing a 4+3 track to a PharmD, as long as you research and pay attention to pharmacy school prereqs and ensure that you take all the prereqs too.

However, you should also look for the 0-6 pharmacy schools and the 2+4 pharmacy schools if your goal is pharmacy. In the 0-6 schools, you’d be admitted directly into the pharmacy track. In the 2+4 schools, you would take prepharm prereqs and then would apply to the upper track of the PharmD program as a sophomore. If not accepted at that point, you could then declare your major. Both pharmaceutical science and biochem are sometimes fall-back majors for the students who aren’t accepted into a PharmD program, because prepharm prereqs met in the 2+4 programs often can also be applied as credits for those majors.

But every school can be a little different. It’s certainly possible that some of them require you to plug your “intended major” into a box as an applicant, and either of these majors are fine if a school doesn’t have a prepharm box to check off.

It does not matter what major you are, BUT to get into pharmacy school you must have completed all the required classes. Typically biology major or chemistry, pharmacy or biochem will satisfy most of the classes for pharmacy school prerequisite and are also required for the major so you are doing both at the same time. But it really doesn’t matter you can be any major as long as you completed the required classes for the specific pharmacy school. Each school has specific classes they require to be completed but generally most require the same classes which is Gen chem 1&2, Organic chemistry 1&2, Biology, and one course of Micro, physics, and other courses are usually required such as economics, english, public speaking.
It can vary by each school but generally those are the main classes required. You can see by visiting the pharmacy school’s website for required prerequisite courses needed completed to apply.
