Major Gift Endows New School of Dance at USC

It was just announced the University of Southern California will add a new school to their list of noted art schools. A multimillion dollar gift from philanthropist, Glorya Kaufman, will endow the establishment of the USC Kaufman School of Dance. USC is the home of the USC School of Architecture, School of Dramatic Arts, Roski School of Fine Arts, Thornton School of Music and the School of Cinematic Arts.

Mrs. Kaufman has supported the art of dance with donations of $20 million dollars to Dance at the Los Angeles Music Center and $6 million to Alvin Ailey American Dance Company and to the Julliard School, among others. This will be her largest gift to date.
She wished to invest in the future through dance education.

The gift includes funding for a new complex to house the Kaufman School of Dance. Construction will begin in 2014. The school plans to admit the first class of dance majors after a rigorous auditon process and academic requirements. Both contemporary and classical dance will be studied. Students will earn a BFA in Dance and will have the opportunity, once admitted, to double major or minor in other disciplines across the university.
