Major Gift to Endow New School of Dance at USC

California philanthropist, Glorya Kaufman, has made a major gift to the University of Southern California to add to their noted art schools. The generous donation will provide for a new school of dance at the university, USC Kaufman School of Dance.
It will endow a new dance complex, faculty, scholarships and special funding for admitted students from the USC family of schools.

Mrs. Kaufman had given earlier funding of $20 million to dance at the Los Angeles Music Center, $6 million to the Alvin Alley American Dance and to the Julliard School. She has also given donations to health causes, among others. This donation is her largest donation to date.

Construction is expected to begin in 2014. The first class is planned for fall of 2015 with applications accepted in late 2014. Accepted students will earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and will be able to double major or minor in other disciplines across the university.

Dance students will be eligible to apply for the long list of USC's merit scholarships.

The new school will join SC's other art schools: The USC School of Architecture, Roski School of Fine Arts, Thornton School of Music, USC School of Dramatic Arts and the School of Cinematic Arts. This is the first new school at SC since the establishment of the USC Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism.

Kaufman's inaugural dean will be Dr. Robert Cutietta.
