Any other thoughts? :)

I think that you should definitely apply to engineering as CS and take advantage of your gender. After all, you DO in fact plan to major in CS, so it’s totally ethical, IMHO. You don’t need a background in CS to study it. You need to be strong in math. I think that applying to engineering will increase your chances because of your gender (assuming that you have the math chops to back it up). It doesn’t change anything about what you actually plan to do, and nowhere on the application are you being disingenuous. You are just being smart.

EDIT: Whoa, I looked at your stats on another page. Definitely apply engineering. You most definitely do have the math chops. How can they NOT take you if you are doing ED.

My prediction is one and done for you!

@ClassicRockerDad Hey! I hope you’re right :). Thanks so much.

If you aren’t sure, why not contact WUSTL directly for an answer? Don’t state explicitly that you are most interested in relative acceptance rates. Just explain that you are interested in both fields, as an ED applicant, and how you should indicate it on your application. You could couch the question in academic terms, inquiring how difficult it would be to move between departments. It will not hurt you. It will indicate your interest in both WU and commitment to multiple, challenging disciplines. You can ask how easy it will be to pursue life sciences from the Engineering program. Good luck!

@woogzmama I actually emailed them to make sure that my desired course of study (double major bio and compsci) is possible, and am currently talking to an academic advisor to make sure I can graduate on time!

Thanks so much for your advice. I really appreciate it!
