Major Help: I Think I Messed Up My Essay

Guys, Gals...anyone....I need major advice here!!

In my essay I mentioned that I dont like alcohol and that even though my friends are drunkards I dont drink coz I dont like to and that it violates my principles.

Now....every college is a party place....and drunkards rule right!!!

So will the admissions committee reject me by assuming that I wouldnt fit in the college. OR will this make no difference at all!!!!

Everyone please gimme ur comments on it....is it a risky move??

BTW...I am international prospect.

err...what?

so youre saying you think you shouldve instead told them that you DO enjoy alcohol - which is by the way a legal offense?

at least your essay hopefully makes sense, whereas the mistake that i made in mine renders a whole sentence completely idiot and useless.

haha no, i think that saying you don't drink in a college essay was probably a smart move on your part.

How could that have possibly come up in your essay?

i cant believe how it came up...
but cutting that part now means cutting the whole essay!

I became concerned about this when the college that I am applying to turned out to be inside the TOp 10 'major party schools' rankings

say, would the adcoms think that i am being too smart by saying that i dont drink to a college that ranks 3 at 'alcohol Very popular' college.

Jvhwoube..........what was ur mistake?

no it wont.

Hey BTW,

How many of you think that drinking is essential to surviving 4 years in college?
And how do the elders (I mean parents, teachers, guardians..etc.) view alcohol and HS seniors?? (I dont live in USA, so I dont know!)

I think it depends on where you go. Some schools definitely have more of a drinking culture than others.

So does that mean........a college which ranks high in 'alcohol very popular'...... the adcoms wont appreciate me not drinking alcohol??
or r ya saying that adcoms appreciate it everywhere.....but seniors dont like that!!

Still gettin confused........common guys...I need ur help on this one...
Everyone.....please.....I need ur views on this.

Personally I don't think it really matters so much what the content of your essay is. What is important is how it is written and what is says about you. There are plenty of successful people at university who don't drink, particularly Mormons. They will not reject you because you don't drink. I would worry more about how you wrote your essay. If it is good I wouldn't worry so much.

I don't think the admissions officers care about drinking alcohol, they won't reject people because they won't necessarily "fit in". That's not on the list of criteria.

Like I said previously I think the social atmosphere greatly depends on the school and the place. Some high-schoolers drink heavily, others not at all. I know members of both groups. Universities generally with large Greek populations tend to be more alcohol centered- that's not the rule though.

Bottom-line: they won't reject you for your personal beliefs on alcohol. You can still fit in without drinking. I'd be more worried if you were spitting out a racist essay- like the guy in the Princeton forum asking about whether being an African American Nazi would help him.

I think the biggest mistake you made is saying you surround yourself with friends who abuse alcohol.

woah.....this is turning out to be worse!!
good news.....I think i have written it out well.
Bad news.... Yes, my essay does involve racism to some extent. is it ok to say that i was a guy from a different background and grew up in a different place.....man i did say a few things about different races and culture.....hmmm......i didnt say anything bad about anything though.
hope this works out!!

And whats the mistake in saying that I am surrounded by drunkards??
I think thats true for most of us. Its only the truth and probably many people know about it

Firstly. Calm down! And take a deep breath.

That is not racism what you wrote above. That is discussion. The guy I'm talking about was essentially asking if being a Nazi could help him. I'm assuming you didn't put any Nazi propoganda in there. That is wrong. But wrting about different races and different cultures is okay. A lot of people use topics like that.

If you have written it well, I wouldn't worry so much.

You said somewhere you are not from the US. I'm pretty sure. Don't worry about saying you are surrounded by drunkards. If your essay is good and those statements fit within the essay that's good. Better it be about you and show who you are then be some cookie cutter play it safe essay. This could set you apart.

thanks a heellll lot scarletleavy..........I guess i am little more calm now!!
I think i will revise the essay one last time and send it 2morrow. By the way one advice to all...............DONT SEND ONLINE APPS ON DEC 31st or evend DEC 30.
