So guys here is my situation. I studied nursing and got my RN and AAS at 23. I tried throughout my 20’s to love nursing. I’ve worked several different fields and I even started on my BSN (didn’t finish) all while carrying a torch for the love of languages. This last year as I was staying home with my newborn daughter I realized that I wanted to finally study the things that I loved and to throw in the towel on nursing. It wasn’t hard to make this decision once I realized that I was never going to be happy with it and that I have tried to love my career and be passionate about it for 7 years now.
I applied to the local liberal arts university here and I put down that I want to major in Spanish and minor in linguistics. I am also thinking about minoring in French. I would really love to double major in French and Spanish and minor in linguistics. Okay, SO, the Question is am I biting off more than I can chew if I major in Spanish and minor in linguistics and French? Should I just stick with one minor and one major? I mean I am not getting any younger and I have 2 small children, one is 5 and the other is 7 months old. totally wouldn’t feel as “in over my head” if I had pursued my true passion for languages at the age of 20 when I realized that’s what I truly loved and wanted to study and didn’t have small children at home. I just feel really overwhelmed I guess… I suppose I’m just wondering what career paths others have done that have had a linguistics, Spanish, or French majors or minors and has anyone done the “back to college” gig with 2 small children and being married?
Thanks in advance for any input!
