Major: Statistics + CS, how hard?

Hey! I've just transferred into UM, and I'm considering to double major Statistics and CS (I major Stats in my old school).

Based on other threads, CS seems to be a really intense and demanding major, many students struggle just for a pass. But personally I'm very interested in coding and have learned C language, in addition the Data track in CS would be sweet for my Stats career future. So how doable do you think double major would be? How many hours should I study every week if pursuing a 3.75+ cgpa?

I plan to take MATH 215 Calculus III, EECS 203 Discrete Math, EECS 280 Programming and Introductory Data Structures, and STATS 412 Introduction to Probability and Statistics. I don't know if that's appropriate for a newcomer like me and I'm really hoping to get some advice. Thanks a lot to everyone who replies!!

One of my buddies who breezed through 280 and 281 had a pretty hard time in stats 412. 426 is supposed to be easier, i think. The other 3 classes shouldn’t be too much of a time commitment. Just make sure you start the 280 projects early.

CS is somewhat challenging. Stats is easy.

Surprised to find STATS 412 harder than 426, gotta rearrange my schedule! Thanks a lot!!

I’m aiming for the honor STATS so a graduate course is a must, perhaps a little more pressure I guess

Surprised me too. (Because it’s not true)

Your schedule looks good to me. I don’t know how much time you’d have to spend for a specific GPA, but I think it’d be a fair amount. It shouldn’t be impossibly hard, but not super easy either.

Special thanks to Vladenschlutte, I think I’ll keep the schedule~

BYW, I saw a guy who claims to have been studying 3-5 hrs/day and ended up with 3.4-3.5 gpa. I was like: WOW…

Sorry, I think I got the two mixed up. Big oops on my part lol. In my defense, I was working from memory of one conversation a while ago. Good luck !
