I currently taking IB exams and I have a major problem. I did absolutely TERRIBLE on one test and am most likely looking at a 3, perhaps even a 2 out of 7. This is not an exaggeration. I was originally predicted a 42 out of 45 but am now having a lot of trouble in one subject that does not at all relate to my intended major. I was originally predicted at a 5-6 for it. All my other classes are fine. The combination of senioritis and underestimating the extent of the material that was covered killed me. My GPA other than that is fine since we finished classes a few weeks ago.

The problem is the potential 2. Is there the possibility that my acceptance at Tufts (or potentially Stanford) gets rescinded? I'm kind of freaking out right now...

No. It’s very unlikely as long as if your other exams are up to shape and that you also kept your grades up.

A friend of mine got straight 5’s on 7 AP exams and a 1 in AP Spanish last year. He got into Northwestern still–and they didn’t do anything to him because of it. The fact of the matter is that no matter how bad it is, it’s not a zero, and, most importantly, it’s only one outlier, right? It shouldn’t be a source of fear.

My Regional Director for Penn told me that what I get on my AP exams will not affect my acceptance when I told him I might get like a 2 out of 5 on one of my exams lol. Sooo you should be fine too

I see what you guys are saying. I’m not sure whether IB is weighed the same as AP though. See, I live in Europe and here it’s a HUGE deal. I got into some awesome Top 10-20 colleges in the US but here I’d be going wayyyy down the line if I were to apply in Europe.

I also just found out that if I get a 2 I fail the IB Diploma completely because the course I took was a Higher Level. If you get a 2 or below in an HL class you fail even if the rest of your grades are straight 7s.

The best part about this situation is that I’m taking 4 HLs! You only have to take three but I decided to take four to qualify for “extreme academic rigor” for colleges. FANTASTIC. I’m going to fail for a class I didn’t even have to take.

AP scores do not carry much weight when you take it senior year and not at all to a point to where there is a possibility that you will get rescinded. If your GPA is extremely low (because of D’s, F’s or straight C’s) or much lower than how it was when you were accepted, then that can affect your acceptance.

Read the stuff that came with your acceptances. Any conditions will be stipulated somewhere in the acceptance packet (and as I recall there are usually conditions- at the very least, passing high school as expected).

If you’re not satisfied with what you find there, best thing to do is to call the admissions office. Remember, these decisions are made by humans in a holistic process, not machines. If you’re an accepted student, and ESPECIALLY if you’ve already sent in your deposit to enroll, they’ll probably treat you well.
