Hello. I was admitted into undeclared physical sciences. I wish to pursue a career in the medical field. But I was wondering instead of biological sciences if I should take a class like psychology or sociology? Will that affect my chance in med school? If not, should I change to that major?

All medical schools that I know of require that you take 1 year of biology with lab, so you can’t avoid it. Also, UCI doesn’t have any lower division biology labs, and the upper division labs usually have tons of prerequisites (Bio 93, 94, 97, 98, 99, 100, and 194s at the minimum), so it’s advisable to start taking those classes right away so that you’ll be allowed to take the labs. Also, there are medical schools that recommend (if not require) psychology and sociology, and even if you don’t plan to apply to those schools those classes should be good preparation for the new MCAT.

@aldfig0 thank you!
