majoring in Econ, then what??

I'm just curious to know what kind of jobs econ majors get after they gradate from college...I want to do something related to business after I graduate..would I be better prepared if i major in econ?? or can I major in something else even if it's totally not related...
I'm at a school where there is no business program....only economics major...

From what I've gathered, economics programs are rather general (more theory, politically based) if not taught in a business school setting. You may be better prepared for business with an econ degree, but a science or engineering related degree will also be beneficial for business (maybe even more so) because of the critical thinking and problem solving they teach.

What's the school? If it's University of Chicago/ivies, they're investment banking/trading factories. :D

teaching teaching and more teaching. Well that, graduate school and any other field you deam interesting, yet withing a reasonable category. You can work for the government, work under the president, study macro econ and pursue a future in the bond markets, etc etc. Its so broad based anything is possible.

many ppl tell me and think that econ is useless since it's so braod and not specific like other engineering or science majors....so with econ degree, your future is not that safe or something?

Econ majors will do fine in the job market, especially if your in a decent college. Econ is known as the degree people get, so they can get jobs.

Econ is really flexible, thats why I chose it. You can go into law, business, journalism, politics. Although not all econ degrees are alike, you can focus on the more quantitative side which lead to grad school in econ or maybe business (MBA), or you can focus on the policy making for politics or law (in econ) for law school. I didn't cover everything but you can do a lot w/ econ.

Potential jobs:
Lawyer, Banker of all kinds, journalist, financial analyst, management consultant.

Theres a lot of stuff about that on the internet, might wanna check it out.

I agree with SebmaFSX and I would like to add taht when it comes to Econ, the overall prestiege of the college which you are studying at matters a lot too. Since almost every college has an Econ department.

i'm currently attending princeton..that should help a lot then??
I'm a freshman now, and I really have a hard time deciding whether I should enter the econ department..since it's one of the biggest majors here...and I'm not sure if I like other science or subjects so much that I want to major in them...is this why many ppl go into econ??

"I want to do something related to business after I graduate"

Since your at princeton, I suggest you either focus on the quantitative side of econ (plus mathematics major/minor if possible) or pursue an engineering degree. Basically, the more quantitative you are, the better you are off in business and in pursuing an MBA.

Trust me as long as you do econ at princeton whichever form it may be, you will be fine off because Princeton is notorious for Ibank placement and putting kids into the business world. As long as you do econ you will be fine, but doing quantitative econ would help.
