majoring in gender studies

I'm hoping to major in gender studies, and I even put in my common app and my supplements how much I've been involved with it. One of my extracurriculars are even tied with gender studies. How much of an advantage does this give me that I'm hoping to major in something not very popular?
****I realize that just having a non-sought after major can be a HUGE downfall if your essays + extracurriculars do not support it. But I'm super passionate about it!! And I have passion shown in my essays!

where my gender studies people at

probably at mcdonalds #letsbehonest

we are the 1%

We would still need GPA, SATs, and what colleges you’re applying to give you a good idea. Overall, I think if you have stats to support yourself, it doesn’t really matter what gender you’re applying for, provided that it isn’t a STEM major that is at a school that’s absolutely the best at it.

@juniorbengal but how much of an advantage because its an unpopular major? considering colleges are going to know i’m not changing it because all my ECs and some of my essays are on it

It all depends on where you apply to. Can you list stats/hopeful colleges? Some schools have a more popular gender studies program than others do. But I do think you have a better chance since there’s bound to be less competition for those spots.

I can do more when you give us stats and schools.

Applying to a noncompetitive major will give you a slight advantage at best. It’s great to show your passion for the subject area, but wanting to study gender studies alone won’t really help much…
