would my chances be better if i were to correlate essay and majors? (UC System)

I was going to apply undecided, but i was wondering if it would be better to apply as a major that relates to my essays?

i wrote my essays on 1) coming from a family with 2 moms (im transgender myself) and 2) being adopted from china

so would i have a better chance applying with a gender/sexuality (or similar) major? and like an asian studies minor? both are in the general area that im into (social science/humanities) and i was thinking i could just switch if i wanted to? considering most people do switch anyway?

im looking at UCSC, UCD, UCB, UCR, UCSB, UCM (with CSU’s as safety schools). my grades are below average (uw gpa 3.41 and ACT 27) so im relying a lot on EC’s and personal statements. I feel like i should take advantage of any possibility to make myself more appealing.

Thanks!

I personally think you should go with the major which is best for you, if that is undecided right now than go with it. The only caveat is that some majors are difficult to switch into later down the road such Engineering/STEM/Psychology etc…

The UC essays are about getting know you as an individual outside your academics. They do not have to be major related.
You do know that CSU’s will not take EC’s and essays into consideration so they will rely on your ACT and GPA for admission. Pick your CSU safeties accordingly.

Good Luck.
