Majoring

I am starting college this fall, and I'm attending a community college. Of course, meaning I'm a freshman in college. I've been worried about what I want to major in for a year now and it hasn't got any better. At first I'm always saying I'm going to become an Optometrist, but now I think I've been saying it just to cover up that I don't know what I want to do.

I've been researching these past two days, and came across East Asian Language and Culture. I'm Asian myself and I just like how it's different within different cultures. I love meeting new races, learning about different cultures, and how the language is spoken so I thought that maybe this is what I want to do.

Then there's another thing that's bugging me. I'm good at filing, researching, typing, listening, and all that secretary-like work. I've been told that I should major in something business like. I like doing what I'm good at, and being in my comfort zone but I want to learn about different cultures also.

Well, I'll get to the point now...

I was wondering should I major in International Business? Or is there some other major that would relate to what I'm good at and what I like? Should I major in Business Admin. and minor in EALC?

You don’t need to decide now. Your first year of classes will be pretty wide-ranging; all you need to do is include some courses in areas of possible interest. So if you think you might be interested in international business, sign up for a course in introductory economics and a course in the East Asian studies area, if that interests you. Then, if you like those courses, you can pursue those areas in future semesters. If you don’t like them, you still will have credit for a couple of social science courses to apply to your degree.
