<p>Does the major you select affect your chances of admission? For example, if you pick the least popular major does that make it more likely that you will be admitted?</p>
<p>Everyone’s “third choice” is general undergraduate studies. The only way your idea would work is if there were a major that is easier to get into than undergraduate studies. UT can only accept so many students a year. I do not think they would sacrifice those slots to recruit students to an unpopular major when they could take a more qualified applicant for another major. This is if you are referring to admissions to UT.</p>
<p>This is only speculative of course. I have no idea what goes on behind the curtains of an admissions committee.</p>
