I plan on majoring in History and applying ED to hopkins. I've heard a applying with a potential major in the humanities can be a plus for admissions to hopkins which is all to often mistaken as a totally science oriented school. Does this have any merit?
Thanks

I don't think so. It's easy to switch between majors (exception of BME) if admitted so I doubt applying as a certain one will affect your chances.

hmm...well.............if anything, it would help, and it certainly wouldn't hurt.

your choice of intended major when applying to hopkins does matter, but not in the sense where it is "easier" to get in when you apply to one program over another. what i mean is that it is not harder for nat. sci. kids over humanities, engineering over social sciences, etc.

major choice matters in that the adcoms review an applicant's strengths and weaknesses academically in comparison to their intended area of study. students interested in engineering and natural sciences need to be looked at differently than students interested in humanities or social sciences. though once again it doesn't make it any harder.

I think it would help. I applied as an Art History major (not one of their well know or particularly strong programs) and got in with grades and extra-curriculars well below the hopkins average

yes, help not hurt
