majors for pre-med

Ok, so I know you don't necessarily have to be a biology or chemistry major to get into med school, but I've heard that it makes med school a lot easier, true? Part of the reason I'm asking is because I'll be a senior in high school next year, so I've started filling out basic parts of my education. I think I will probably go into college undecided, but I'm really hesistant to major in bio or chem. My cousin's ex-girlfriend majored in bio in college hoping to go to dental school but then she didn't get in, her score on the entrance exam wasn't high enough. Now she claims she's stuck with a biology major and nothing to do with it. I'm actually really interested in journalism, although I don't think that's what I'll make a career out of; do any journalism majors go into medical school? I know med schools want well-rounded students, but this seems kind of like a whole different pathway. any thoughts??

The data is a couple of years old, but I would be surprised if it's changed all that much: http://www.colorado.edu/aac/table1.pdf

This might also be of some help (I think journalism would be included in "social sciences"): http://www.aamc.org/data/facts/2006/mcatgpabymaj1.htm
