I just started looking into U Chicago as a fallback school for Georgetown and have a couple of questions. I read in an earlier thread that the International Relations program is not very well known. That´s okay for me, but I want to know if it is a good program nonetheless. Also, it looks like U Chicago has a lot of language majors (which I like to see :-) . Is the Portuguese program a strong one?

As far as internships go - are there many available in Chicago related to international relations and/or languages? I know that there are many consulates set up in chicago, but not sure if they provide good internships.

And concerning social life - some people have posted some really negative things about the social life...in addition a friend toured U Chicago and thought it was a pretty "dorky" atmosphere. What specifically makes it dorky? Is it that people are serious about their studies, or actually do not like to go out into the city and have fun, and it doesn´t necessarily (holy crap, I don´t even remember how to spell necessarily....I guess that´s what foreign exchange does to ya...) mean drinking fun.
