Majors to get into Med-School

I will be a Senior this coming year and am compiling my list of colleges to apply in the fall. Becoming a pediatrician has been my dream since I was a little girl and you might be able to relate. I've read many articles/discussions regarding undergraduate majors for prospective medical school students and what are your thoughts on:

neuroscience major?
east asian studies major?
molecular biology major?

Congratulations on your choice of careers. As a pediatrician I can assure you that it is a wonderful area of medical specialization and very rewarding, although not necessarily in terms of income: pediatricians are not wealthy. But no one goes into pediatrics for the money, but rather for the joy of working with children. Also for the joy of working with other pediatricians: we tend to be a sweet-natured bunch.

You can major in whatever you want as long as you complete your pre-med requirements with a good GPA, do well on the MCAT, and acquire some experience in the medical field.
I would strongly recommend that you choose a major that you really enjoy. It doesn’t have to be a science: medical schools like liberal arts and fine arts majors just as much as science majors. I studied English and history, and in fact served as a college professor for 11 years before going to medical school.

You should enjoy your undergraduate studies and broaden your background before embarking on a minimum of seven intense years of medical training.

Best of luck to you.
