<p>Can someone explain to me the impact a certain major has on college admission? </p>
<p>I have heard many theories that if you pick a popular major, you have a "weaker" chance at getting into the college compared to picking an unpopular major.</p>
<p>It depends on the school. Some schools admit everyone without regard to major, expecting that the eventual choices of majors will not exceed the capacity of any department. Others admit by major or division, presumably because many departments are at full capacity; in such schools, changing major or division once enrolled requires applying to do so.</p>
<p>Oh okay! Because people keep telling me to pick the unpopular major, which i think is dumb.</p>
