Majors

Hey guys, I know it must sound dumb to you but since I have absolutely no experience whatsoever in applying I was wondering - should I pick a major before applying or I am entitled to take different classes and then decide for myself which ones to keep and drop respectively ?

Although Yale and other colleges ask about “your interests” they DO NOT require applicants to choose majors – that is something you do at the end of sophomore year. Be honest. Write down which subjects you are most interested in, or if you cannot decide, write undecided.

FWIW: Admissions Directors understand that the majority of students change majors at least once during their four years of college, so colleges don’t hold you to whatever you write down.

Okay, that means the application is more or less an ‘‘open’’ one, right ?

^^ Correct. All students apply to Yale College as Liberal Arts Majors and decide upon a major during their sophomore year.
