Hey Classmates! I'm starting this thread so we can tell what we plan to major in and, if you're feeling up to it, why.

I'm going to major in Philosophy **and possibly minor in **Gender Studies **or **Classical Studies. I think that mastering logic, the ability to construct and critique arguments, and seeking answers to life's big questions are vital parts of any endeavor. The minors, well, they have no practical use whatsoever besides being really, really interesting, which is why UChicago is perfect for me.

The major that i picked on my application for the schools that asked for it is physics. U of C has such a great history with physics, Enrico Fermi presence and such. After college i planned to go to grad school on physics to and eventually end up being a college professor on the subject. I'm not sure if a small libral arts college, a big reaserch college, or U of C is the best way to achieve that goal of mine.

Vutiful, you don't have to pick your major until sophomore/junior year. And if you're "undecided" as of now, U of C looks to be the strongest place to go since your first year is a lot of core curriculum classes. It'll let us see what we like and don't like, which I think is a great part of the school.

I'm leaning toward Linguistics, or maybe Econ, or maybe a double in something, or a minor in some kind of Lit class, or... yeah, screw deciding just now :)
