Make me paranoid

Hello,

Cal Poly SLO is pretty much the only college I want to go to. It sounds sad, and I can’t really figure out why myself, but we’ll see. I’m applying early decision.

Senior
Caucasian
17
Bay Area (though according to an admissions person that my friend talked to recently, location won’t play a part this year; its all free for all)
Major: Computer Science, Alternate Computer Engineering

Cal Poly GPA:
UW: 3.5 W: 3.9

Rigor of courses: 5 AP/Honors courses first semester junior year, 4 second semester (had to transfer out of one due to personal issues (lovely that I can’t explain it on the app anywhere…), 2 AP/Honors sophomore year, 2 AP courses this year

SAT: 1770
CR: 500 (I have no idea what happened, I really don’t.)
Math: 660
Writing: 610

ACT Composite: 30
English: 33
Math: 27
Reading: 31
Science: 27
Writing: 8

ECs:

Not much, not that there’s much to say anyway. No job. Low hours, some leader positions.

Do your worst, make me more paranoid.

You’re golden.

I think your good but I would only report the ACT scores.

I agree with ocslodad and am only slightly less optimistic than NBrink because of the competitive environment you face. Let us know how things turn out. Good luck.

your sats were higher than mine and i got in…

Well, I actually submitted my application, and included the SAT score. The college counselor at my school told me that they would only look at my highest score (ACT). However, the more I think about it, the more I realize it might have been better if I only sent the ACT scores. AHHHHH

Cal Poly will look at both ACT and SAT (if you send both) and give you credit for the highest of the 2 scores. I agree with the others - get your ACT scores in to Cal Poly as soon as possible.

Zungra, it won’t matter really, i sent my ACTs, which were higher than my SATs, but i ended up sending both. getting into cal poly is all about numbers, it’s a point-based system, and you’ll be accepted by the amount of points you have, so they’ll only take your highest score and use that towards your points… at least im pretty sure they will. but dont worry too much.

I know several computer science majors that got in with significantly lower scores than you.

Your chances of getting in look pretty good to me. Cal Poly doesn’t really look at extra curriculars and work experience and things like that. It’s pretty much based of grades and test scores. Location won’t help or hurt you, unless you’re out of state it might, but you’re not so it doesn’t matter anyway. You have no reason to be paranoid! I was paranoid and I completely messed up my application but I got in early decision. And you have tests scores that are at least as high as mine and I didn’t take any AP’s. Don’t worry too much about it. Whatever happens, you’ve done all you can do. Good Luck!

Really? Do you know their stats? I have a 3.28 W and a 33 on math on the ACT, 30 on science and an 18(no typo) on reading. I applied for Computer engineering. I applied early.
And I’m asian.
