It's my sixth month at CIT, and I've been doing nothing except non-study-related stuff; work ethic is gone.

Situation: Taking (only) three classes P/Fail; earning scraping (near-failing) grades in two of the three.

Help! Current students (or others who haven't buurnt out): advice for
getting motivated again? I don't want to do anything. Time management sessions? Please reply.

Try improving your social life. I burned out earlier this year, and then I realized it was because I'd started working alone in my apartment, so I only rarely got any social contact. When I started working with others again and making more of a point to get together with people outside of work, I found that I did much better in my classes.

Impose some strcuture on your life. Go to bed at about the same time each night, and make it early enough that you get up to go to class. Go to the gym and work out, or run, or do yoga (my personal favorite!) or some other athletic sort of thing. It really helps get your mind back to where it needs to be. Once you have some structure you'll find that there are pockets of time where working just makes sense. Going to class makes it seem more manageable as well - then you don't have to just learn everything on your own.

Balance is the key to happiness at Caltech is one of the main things that I've learned during my four years. Alternatively, if you want to just drop by and chat you're welcome to - I've managed to go through a fair number of the struggles that most people endure since I got here. Just donut me (galen) and drop by - I'll be around over Thanksgiving, and obviously when classes are going.
