Making medicine?

Hi, I want to make medicine as my future career.

What majors should I take for manufacturing medicine?

And is it right for me to take pre-pharmacy if I want to manufacture medicine?

Wisegirl: I’ll take a first crack at trying to answer your question. I’m not sure what you have in mind when you talk about manufacturing medicine. If you want to create medicines, you could major in biochemistry and should plan on earning advanced degrees. There are also some research pharmacists with advanced degrees who work on drug development. If you want to go into the business of manufacturing medicines, you could major in pharmaceutical science and business. If you want to compound medicines for patients, you should pursue a PharmD. You might try looking at job postings for the big pharmaceutical companies on their websites, to get some ideas as to the credentials they want for various positions.

wisegrl: do you mean you want to develop new drugs and novel drug treatments? If so, take a look at this thread:
<a href=“I want to research/design drugs. - Science Majors - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/science-majors/1271483-i-want-to-research-design-drugs-p1.html</a></p>

Do you mean you want to be involved in the mass production of drugs, and drug manufacturing processes? Then chemical engineering may be much more relevant.

By making medicine,I’m asuming you mean drug devolopment, like bayer and Pfizer. Biochemistry,Chemistry, and biology are all beneficial majors.A graduate or professional school degree will be required to make you a competitive applicant. I recommend the pharmD.
Good luck! :)

Thank you all!
