Pharmaceutical Sciences

I want to be involved in making and researching drugs, but I'm not necessarily interested in being a pharmacist. That's why I think Pharmaceutical Sciences would be a good major for me. I'm a junior now, still trying to figure out which schools would fit me best. I'm also unaware of whether you have to attend any type of med or pharmacy school for PS majoring. My weighted GPA, as of the 3rd quarter of my junior year is a little over a 4.73, and my SAT is around the high 1800s, if that helps give an idea of where I could apply. Also, I'm taking the SAT again on Saturday, so I should be in the 2000s by the end of the month.

Chemistry or biology.

You’ll need to go to graduate school to do that. Med school is for doctors and pharmacy school is for pharmacists. Specifically you will either want to go to graduate school in a chemistry/biochemistry related field or go to a pharmacology program. Either one should set you up well for a career in medicinal chemistry research.

As far as UG goes…you will want to major in chemistry/biochemistry. Perhaps even molecular biology for the recent emergence of recombinant DNA technology and MAb production in major pharma.
