Hey guys!
Congratulations on getting out of high school and starting a completely new chapter of your life! College is a great experience despite its ups and downs, and you will surely make some lifelong memories.
However, it comes at a cost–ridiculously high tuition, expensive books, and excessive eating out. I created this thread in hopes of helping you guys out financially just a little, and if you have anything to contribute to the community, please leave a response below! I’ll definitely continue to update this thread with some of the top pieces of advice.
BUY THE CHEAPEST TEXTBOOKS
Seriously, I cannot emphasize how expensive buying textbooks each quarter/semester can be. It’s when you reach college that you realize you should’ve kissed every single free textbook you received in high school. Regardless, never buy textbooks at full price from your university bookstore unless you’re desperate and held at gun point. Instead, browse for cheaper alternatives.
Most large universities have student-run Facebook textbook exchange groups. You can buy books off your peers for a fraction of the cost.
Furthermore, your university library probably has a few textbooks on hold that you may check out for a few hours.
There are also textbook price comparison sites that will find the cheapest seller for your textbook. Check out the site below: http://goo.gl/RL9iyD
STUDENT DISCOUNTS
Did you know that many companies give a small discount to students as long as you have a .edu email? Take Amazon Student Prime for instant–Amazon Prime for students at half the price of regular prime: http://goo.gl/3lkamS
Spotify also has a 50% off discount for student subscriptions.
For a more comprehensive list of student discounts that are available with a .edu email, refer to this link: http://goo.gl/rbZvb
SAVE MONEY SHOPPING
If you shop online a lot, I have two web tools that are perfect for you.

UBER & LYFT
In case you don’t know what Uber or Lyft are, they’re ride-sharing apps. Think of taxi on demand with one click on your phone. Even if you don’t take taxis regularly, you’re going to in college. Parties happen.
If you’re a first time user, Uber has the code RIDIN30 for your first $30 off.
Lyft is a simliar app, but with slightly cheaper rates. The first-time user promo code for Lyft is TIMETORIDE33
MAKE MONEY
On top of saving money, making money is just as important. Here are some easy gigs that everyone can try out at any university.
OneClass is hiring notetakers from universities all across the world. Your job? Go to class, take quality notes, get paid on average $400 per course. If you’re taking four courses a semester, you could be making $1600 just uploading your notes. Do keep in mind, however, these must be your original notes. You may not upload the professor’s material, or previous exams. OneClass also has a scholarship listing as well as online tutoring. Check out OneClass here: http://goo.gl/fkFnhg
ProSky is the Linkedin for college students. It has one purpose: to connect potential students with employers. You can sign up for a profile for free to get noticed here: http://goo.gl/RqbzGy Or you can take one of their training classes to have a higher likelihood of getting hired by companies outside of ProSky! Found here: http://goo.gl/wnwTo8
Finally, if you have a creative brain, try MindSumo. Companies such as Pearson, Dell, MetLife, and GEICO have all used it before. Companies give you challenges, and you try to find a solution. Prizes range from $50 to $100. Sign up here: https://goo.gl/6JXxjq
& there you have it! If you personally have any tips, please feel free to share them with you. Good luck!
