What does everyone think of this major? Job outlook looks very promising and the salary is higher than most undergraduate business majors

I was planning on going the accounting route but i think it's not for me. Im good with numbers but computers interest me more than auditing work. I already know some excel, VB, HTML, CSS. I dont want to be a pure developer/coder however and they are easily outsourced to other countries. That's the reason why i didnt go the CS route. I have always wanted to major in something related to business.

Im looking to be a systems analyst, business analyst, network admin or database admin.

I’m majoring in Business Information Management, which is basically the same thing, the job prospects are very good, many of our alumni got employed with the big4,accenture,mckinsey etc.

This is our curriculum

Would it be a good idea to double major MIS with say finance or accounting? It would probably take an extra 8-12 months of school

What kind of doors would open up if I pick up a second major in finance/accounting?

I too am looking at a MIS major with a Finance minor. The biggest concern for this job is outsourcing.

Does going to a target school make a big difference for this major?

Ummm…

If a developer job can be outsourced then a systems analyst job can SURELY be outsourced.

If you are worried about outsourcing, then why not look at defense/INTEL jobs. Those jobs will not be outsourced and usually will not be cut much in funding (regardless of what CNN or FoxNews says).

I think MIS is a fancy way of saying Business.

My understanding is that it is very dependent on the school a person attends. If it is a weak school for MIS than you might find it to be very hard to find a job. However, if the school has a strong MIS department, the jobs you mentioned are obtainable.
