Is Management Information Systems great for a bachelor's degree? Would that coupled with a Computer Science minor make MIS any more marketable? I keep reading various articles on how it's a worthless degree. I would love to work in IT, but not as a developer. I'm thinking something along the lines of Database Administrator/Systems Analyst. Maybe even a consultant for IT. I feel like MIS gives me the best opportunity for this. How is the starting salary? Does internships help?

MIS tends to be more oriented toward the business side of managing systems. Nothing wrong with that, but at least a dose of programming knowledge makes you much more valuable in that IT management environment. So yes, I think a CS minor would help. Not just to make you “marketable”, but you will be a much better manager in the long run with some CS background as well.

And yes, you should definitely try to get internships. Starting salaries are going to depend on what school you are attending and what experience you are able to gain from internships in the process. I don’t think you will be unhappy with the salary, though.

I am going to say that being a DBA isn’t that far away from being a developer. You are still hands on doing systems tasks every day. A systems analyst needs to know both business and CS concepts to be effective. So again… your plan is sound, I think.
