Hey, Im going to Boston University this upcoming fall and i was just wondering what concentration i should go into for my business degree.... im not quite sure what management consulting is...id like to hear what some of you have to say about it

why dont you just read The Vault Guide to Management Consulting?

thanks....thats what im goin to do

Read their websites too. They tell you what they do.

Management consulting(sometimes referred to as MC for short) is a service-oriented business in which clients(corporations, governments, organization) hire the consulting firms to find solutions. For example, Boeing feels it need to cut costs to compete with Airbus, so it hires a consulting firm to find ways for the companyto cut cost. Although management consultants' pay are not in the same stratosphere as that of investment bankers, the works they do are more interesting and entail a steeper learning curve that can often serve as a launching pad for executive positions at major corporations.

wow thats very interesting...thanks applied

i'll definitely take that into account

But remember - you can't just get out of college and decide, "Hey, I'm going to get a management consulting job." CEOs don't like 23-yr olds telling them how to run their company. You'll have to work in lower-level positions for a while to gain the experience, and then you can go into MC.
