My daughter was admitted into Manhattan and Fordham. Can anyone speak to the academic rigor of both schools. The SAT ranges of both schools are different with Fordham bringing higher. And is that reflected in the student expectations in class.
Was she admitted to a specific major?
Would she live on campus or commute?
She was admitted to Arts and science at Fordham for Bio. But she is also interested in business. Inam thinking it would be easier to switch majors at Manhattan if needed. She will be living on campus.
Perhaps email Fordham to know whether it’s easy for a student admitted for Bio to switch to Business or to another major (such as Economics, which may become a substitute for Business even though they’re different subjects).
Biology at Fordham isn’t very good BTW (they’ve tried to improve it but it’s been one of their weak points). On the other hand, biology is one of the lowest ROI majors – there aren’t any jobs for biology majors (they usually require a Master’s or a PHD) and when you realize 2/3 premeds who apply to med school never make it, you can imagine the oversupply of biology majors out there. So, it may not matter that Fordham isn’t that good for bio, since she may prefer other majors Fordham may be strong in… Hence the importance of knowing whether she can switch majors easily.
Manhattan College is known for Business and Performing Arts, and AFAIK applies a “one college” policy whereby if you’re admitted to their college, you can pick any major (except those by audition of course).
Great feedback. Thank you.
@Regretful Manahattan is opening up their new Science and Engineering center this spring. If you get a chance take a visit once it is open for tours. My D is a current sophomore at Manhattan, happy to answer any questions you may have as a parent.
Thank you
