Manufacturing & Mechanical Engineering Technology - B.S.

I am a starting freshman under a general engineering degree program and will select a specific major as early as spring semester. At orientation I really liked what I heard about the manufacturing & mechanical engineering technology program---it seemed very much hands-on, applied research and service.

Is there any reason that I would be hindered by having this type of degree over a mechanical engineering major?

Thanks for your input.

I have a Engineering Technology degree and while I’m doing quite well with it, it’s not something I recommend anymore because of my experiences on a whole. I would suggest you go for the BSME degree vs a BSMET for more door opening opportunity and its’ a cookie cutter degree that will hit a wide swath of the industry, ofte a ET degree will lock you out of many opportunities, often even if you have the experience. It depends on the company and the hiring manager, some are more flexible and look past it other’s have a no go policy.

There are lot’s of ET grads doing fine, but I’m sure if more chimed in with their experiences you would see a trend.
