Hello all I’m almost finished with my course work at my locate CC and have been trying to figure out if I should transfer into an Engineering Technology program or if I should continue my original plan of pursuing an Industrial Engineering degree. While there are differences in the two programs the college I want to attend has both and they have a Manufacturing emphasis for the ET program.
Both of the programs have an end result of preparing you for entry-level management positions in an organization, however the Manufacturing ET program is obiviously geared toward the manufacturing industry and a hands on skill set, while the IE program has a boarder application for business practices across the board. The Manufacturing ET program has more labs too while the IE program has more group coursework preparing you for interaction and how to work as a team with your peers.
I would like to know if anyone has attending either of these types of programs as a part time student; the issues, difficulties, problems (if any), how you resloved them, and ultimately if you graduated within a set timeline (i.e. usually part time students gradute in 3-5 years after attending CC and transfering.).
I have only one example of this from a former co-worker and he attended a Mechnical Engineering program over 8 years as a part time student and he said it was difficult, but he finished it and has been working as a Mechnical Engineer now for 12 years now. All of the other Engineers I know attended college as full time students out of high school so my pool of opinons is small and I would like some more input.
Thanks!
