industrial or manufacturing engineering? (please read)

hi,
i'm currently a rising sophomore at an unknown state university. i originally planned on majoring in a non-engineering major, however i now want to do engineering. the problem is that my current school only offers three engineering disciplines, and only one is abet accredited (manufacturing engineering.) i eventually want to get a masters of engineering in either industrial or mechanical engineering. my school does offer industrial engineering, however it is not abet accredited. will this matter to graduate schools? (btw i cannot transfer to another university b/c of an under 2.0 gpa-bad freshman year.) anyways, my question is, should i major in manufacturing engineering (abet) or industrial engineering (non abet)? which will be better for graduate schools for industrial or mechanical engineering? also do graduate schools even let do a different engineering than your major (for example, undergrad in manufacturing, but masters in industrial?)
thanks

If the IE program is not accredited then likely this is a bottom-tier school, in which case that accreditation might be very important. I would recommend you go for the manufacturing engineering degree then.

You should be able to get a masters in IE no problem.

Also, don’t think that just because you have a low GPA you can’t transfer. Presumably you still have some general requirements (calc, physics, chemistry, etc) left? You could go to a CC and transfer to a school with an accredited IE program.

I have a Bachelors in CS and Masters in IE.

Ditto…

I have a B.S. in Computational Math and a M.S. in Engineering.

What is the third discipline?

thx everyone, btw the 3rd discipline is electrical engineering which i’m not interested in. i’m not interested in trying to transfer b/c it will end up setting me at least a year back

Fair enough. I would go industrial…and hit the books hard.

I have a Bachelors in Psychology, and am currently in a Masters in IE…but yeah, if I were you, I would go the ABET Manufacturing Engineer route first to be honest.

thanks, also would you think it’s worth transferring and losing at least a year to attend an engineering school which has many abet accredited programs? would this help me more to either get a job or get into graduate school?

As opposed to doing which option? If you want to do the ABET Manufact. Eng degree, I wouldn’t advise it.
