I know this is a regional type event but I am wondering if it is worth attending to just get out the nerves and get some experience? Do any schools actually accept students at this event? Any feedback would be great as I am considering since we live within a few hours drive.
You might try the search function. I remember a thread about it a while back. Sounds like a great opportunity!
If it wasn’t a separate thread it was discussed in the sharing venting 2023. Seems to me that there were acceptances and callbacks resulting from auditions.
Thank you - I have seen a few things but was wondering if anyone knows which schools attend this? I realize it is more regional but can’t seem to find a list
These schools attended MARCAS last year:
Arcadia University, Averett University, Centenary University, Coker College, DeSales University, East Carolina University, Elizabethtown College, Emory & Henry College, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Ferrum College, Florida Southern College, Greensboro College, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Juniata College, Kean University, Long Island University Post, Manhattan School of Music, Montclair State University, Niagara University, Rowan University, Savannah College of Art & Design, Slippery Rock University, Southern Methodist University, Stevenson University, Studio School LA, Temple University, University of Tampa, University of West Florida, West Virginia University, Wilkes University and York Theatre Company Training Program.
Great that is helpful!! Thank you so much ~ I was wondering if it was a good idea to attend but I think that having that many schools would maybe help to gauge some feedback early on in the process!
@DramaLove2020
MARCAS auditions were the first college auditions my S went to last year, and we thought it was well worth the drive, particularly for the $30 it cost to do. The audition experience, having been done in early November, got my S great validation of selected songs, experience, and responses back from schools there. He did receive 2 BFA MT acceptances to the two schools he had already been accepted to academically. Not to mention our making friend with others that we both still keep in touch with since the audition process for us has been completed.
@MTSongbirdMom mentioned, there are definitely posts within the 2023 sharing thread with greater detail. But there is also a thread called MARCAS 2018. (I’ll try to post the link here)…

Thank you !
Do you know if you have to have applied to the schools academically ? Also, since you have done this before - Would you mind answering a few questions about pre-screens?
- what should the quality of the dance video be like? I have a video I have done but the studio is small and I feel like it’s hard to get a good angle for the entire one minute without a lot of moving around. Dance is one of my strengths and I want to be sure I will make a good impression with this video? Any suggestions
@DramaLove2020 You do not have to apply to schools prior to MARCAS. U Tampa & FL Southern College were on my son’s list of schools to apply to, so he had already applied to them prior to knowing that they would be at MARCAS. It was an added bonus that they both used his MARCAS audition as his ‘real audition’. I believe he needed to submit his dance video to them afterwards, but they verbally accepted him into their bfa programs at MARCAS without the dance. There is no dance call at MARCAS for MT, however, there were also a bunch of schools there auditioning for Dance Majors. I believe it was a separate registration, but occurred on the same day.
My S actually had someone move with him for parts of his recording. He did his dance video on a stage, using an iphone, I think, with the curtain drawn as the backdrop.
thank you so much
Anyone have any info on what the process is like at MARCAS for Theatre Tech students?
Does anyone know if you can get a MT acceptance from MARCAS? Or is it all just for information etc?
It depends upon the school. Some use MARCAS as a prescreen some as an audition. It’s advertised to schools as a “recruiting” event.
I received a few "verbal " offers of acceptance today at MARCAS. I was wondering if people have found that those are valid ?? Seems like a weird question to ask.
@DramaLove2020 - There have been comments about receiving verbal offers over the years. But don’t take them too much to heart until you get it in writing! There are schools that actually do follow through and auditioners eventually received offers, and others that never did. So just wait for the official written notification.
@stagedoormama SUCH GOOD ADVICE. This is so true even for auditions at other locations. Including Unifieds. Wait till you get it in writing
This is pretty much what I thought too - except not sure how to follow up and ask " is this real"?
@DramaLove2020 Usually it is just a waiting game. Kind of a “don’t contact us, we’ll contact you” deal, at least from what I have seen with others in this situation. If they are going to send you an offer, they will do it in their own time. You just need to be patient until you get that letter/email/phone call.
@stagedoormama I kind of figured that!
@stagedoormama. I did get an email offer yesterday in writing from one of the schools who I spoke to at MARCAS, so I guess it really can happen like that!!
