March 10th SAT Discussion

usta90: the question was find the difference between the 40th and 28th term of the sequence: 1, 4, 7, 10....

yeah basically it's +2 for every next term... starting with 1 as the first term??

plug this into graph calculator... go to table

y = 2(x-1) + a (where a is first term)

y(40) - y(20) = answer

the answer is 36 i believe

Guys come on. There's 3 between each step and 12 steps. 3 x 12 =36

You don't need to use functions. ;)

thanks for the refresher

or.
40th term and 28th term
use the formula of common difference
a1 + (n-1)D
so thats
1 + (40-1)(3) = 118
1 + (28-1)(3) = 82
118 - 82 = 36
HAHAHA

lol yeah thanks jumpman... hahahaha that was kinda silly of me

Since I haven't asked, what is my predicted score?

Math -0
Writing -2 with 11/12 on the essay (I thought my essay was killer; I even mentioned how my grandpa won the Nobel prize in physics. However I only had two examples, the other explaining the significances of Spartan culture. I quoted Kierkegaard in my intro and that might also be a plus.
Verbal -4

Oh, my prompt was something along the lines of "evaluate the conformity of humans to societal standards"

Spartan culture did not conform to the typical merchant/artistic cultures of other Greek city states during the Hellenic Age but their individualism ended up helping the whole nation when Xerxes invaded. (sounds like a dumb example I know but I tried to make it significant)
2.grandpa's eccentricities= physics obsession=own way of problem solving=Nobel prize

this might have been an easy question but i'm a little worried about it... in the math section there was a problem which had piecewise graph of parking prices and it asked to find the total price for certain amounts of hours... does anyone remember the answer?

ohh yeah.. i dont remember the answer.. i think it was like D or something.. what was it (for the parking prices)

btw i used the prices of where the dot was filled in, right..

yea if it is filled in then you use that price. The answer was either D or E, it was one of the bottom answers

what was the answer to the sentence completion question that said the "the only _____ in the harsh desert was some rock stick out" question?

also did anyone have florid for an answer for the one with the painter... a lot of people said idosyncratic but it didn't really seem to fit

paul that was relief.

wbapwo.. i dont think it was florid. i put some really dumb answer, i didnt know what the word meant. it was something with a p, can someone remember what it was so i can look it up and know for future reference?

wow. im really addicted to this subsection of this forum.. i have ap bio and ap stat and precalc homework to do...and its 11pm. hahaha

paul that was relief.

*!!!!! I WAS GOING TO PUT THAT DOWN, BUT I CHANGED IT TO REGULARITY!!!! *!!!!!

yea it was plangent, which means loud or resounding
that coulnd't have been the answer

the answer was idiosyncratic. The words in the SC were actually not hard, but the way the words are used in the sentence was really tricky and weird like relief. I usually get 100% right on SC, I think I already got 2 wrong this time...

can anyone reproduce that sentence

the key word for that sc was eccentric... I think it was about the painter's techniques were so eccentric.. then others call it ____

it's gotta be idiosyncratic
