March 12 - Official SAT - General Discussion IS open

So far, to my comparing answers in the other thread:

-2 CR, but of course, on practice tests I usually get -8 to -15
-0 math
-0 writing

aab123: I got 75 for that problem as well.

trckrazie88: Yes, one of the sections had 23 questions (it was between the 7th and 10th section; CR or W)

i had the same situation with the essay- was right in the middle when time was called. the proctor didn't even give a warning!

Listen, it's not the end of the world. Relax, forget about it, focus on school, and pave the path for the APs and SAT II. You screwed up; you'll live. Wait till the 11th, get your scores, see how you did, and take it over. No reason to fret.

[quote]
1. why are her domestic skills called "arts" (expertise)
2. what are these arts centered around (sensory perception)
3. what does it mean when mrs. d says she never expected to live in such a beautiful place (unprepared for new lifestyle)
4. what's the subtext of her friend's comment that there's no servants to clean (comment on change in social class)
5. what does mrs. d's daughter (angel?) mean when she says that having mrs, d do housework may give offense? (housework not suited for lady of her social class)
6. what caused mrs. d's reaction to the comment about the new ppl that moved into the grocery store (was it a veiled insult? i'm not sure about this one)
7. what are the new sensations mrs. d feels? (isolation and dejection)
8. purpose of 2? paragraph (show changed relationship btwn mrs. d and her friends)
9. the townspeople's assessment of their own behavior vs. mrs. d's (they're generous towards themselves and harsh on her)

agree, except i don't remember the 9th question. i thought it was about what the townspeople's speech/actions showed.. and i put that they showed how they were oblivious to duvell's change or something because it pretty much stated that directly in the passage.

Curve is brutal, since people here have been asserting that they're pre-validated and all this and that. Check page 12 i believe of the Mar 12 Discussion thread.

Claridge/aab123: but everyone posted the grid-ins...and the second one was 66.6, and the third was 75...and I don't remember bubbling in 2 75's, but I know I got 1...what was the question for 66.6?!? o_O

phew thanks claridge

The essay prompt was interesting... I found it more vague than other practice essays I've taken. Though (for the "majority as a guide" essay) I wrote in a school situation and discussed school elections, as well as decisions made by the student body (as a majority) and provided examples from my own school. In comparison to other peoples' subjects, mine doesn't seem to be too on-topic. What do you think?

Thanks.

Wut did u guys write about for your essays...i used Jesus and past presidential elections to prove that the majority's opinon often leads to a poor course of action!!!

iIs the SAT I writing section exactly the same as the SAT II writing test?

navyblue...that's what I got for #9. It was talking about how they remembered their own kindenss, but her kindness was used only to underscore how much she had changed.

I think it is, except that in the SAT II writing you only got 20 mins for the essay.

anyone used The Fountainhead as an example for the essay? Just curious

800,800,800,800,800,800,...790 :)

My three examples were sound examples, at least imho. I had the Galileo/Darwin/other scientists incident, but I put "16th century and earlier" :D I don't think that would matter; this isn't SAT II History of Science (not that such a test exists)...and besides that, I had woman's suffrage and Howard Roark from The Fountainhead (absolute epitome of majority = wrong).

I don't think it matters that much - in a Princeton Review book, I believe for the MCAS (statewide qualifying exam for MA), they ENCOURAGED you to make up obscure/random words of wisdom from obscure/random/make-believe cultures (i.e, 'As the ancient Thyleian idiom goes...')

The graders spend two whole minutes 'reading' your essay. It won't mark down your grade. Colleges may see it; I don't believe they will but some people have said they would.

At any rate, making up things is a mixed blessing. There's no time to really make up ideal sayings or quotes. If you're unsure of a fact though, it should be okay if you get it wrong.

"i have a feeling that some of you don't think it's easy, and perhaps post to bolster your own egos, not all of you, but some"

Note, I see the "not all of you, but some," it's just that I need to be confidence.

Trust me, I have no reason to lie. Not that I'm trying to convince you of anything, but I have been and will continue to be open about it: I got a 1110 on the Jan 22, 2005 SAT and I knew it was hard when I was taking it. That was without a writing and essay score, but it had analagies and quantitative math (both of which I blow at) Without those two, plus more sentence corrections and more kiddie-math, I am 100% confident that my score sky-rocketed. My PSAT Writing score indicated that I am in the 660-730 range, and I don't think that takes into account the 25-minute essay, which I truly believe I nailed today.

I don't think I am sounding pretentious, because I acknowledge my weaknesses just as much as my strengths. Quite frankly, I think it is good to be optimistic about the outcome of one's test, at least for me.

Three wrong on the math should be something in the 750 neighborhood, no?

Pre-validated?

For those of you who took the original SAT, how did you think it compared. For me, I got 800 verbal on the old one, but i dont think i did so well on this new one. For math, last time, due to dumb mistakes i got 760. This time math was easier. The writing is way easier than the SATII Writing btw. I wonder why the media is making such a fuss.

Marks from pressing the pages together?....

Are we allowed to swear on these forums? I didn't even look for those.
