March 2009 SAT discussion

Thanks for the info on the experimental section, but could the experimental section be math problems instead/or as well as the CR?

wait, there was only 10 sections, only 9 count, so isnt the last section (10) the experimental.

No. the last section (10 minutes) would have been a writing section. The experimental section is one of the sections of which you there were 4 sections; either math or reading. My 4-sectioner was reading and daaaaang i hate reading. math was a sinch tho. I’m trying to bump my 790 from the january test to an 800 :). the reading is my downfall, however.

i got 4 writting, so one i guess mine was a writting.
does anyone remember any questions from the test

In response to the math question above, the 13.3 (or 40/3) is correct.
Triangle one area = 0.5 x base (which is constant) x 10
Triangle two area = 0.5 x base (constant) x Y(or any variable)

(Tri 1 area) / (Tri 2 area) = 3/4…now its just a simple proportion, giving you …

(5 / 0.5Y) = 3/4 …simple algebra and you got it…the math sections seemed remarkably easy this go round. i got 4 hours of sleep and the CR wrecked me.

Joker, from what i remember, I believe you are correct…good luck all…cant wait to get those scores in a few weeks!

yes! thats another one correct!!!

If I get 5 math questions wrong, what would I end up with?

If I get 7 writing wrong and a 8 on the essay what would I end up with?

If I get 14 reading wrong what would I end up with?

According to your predicted March Curves, what would be my scores for these sections? Thanks…

Assuming that these are all WRONG and not Omitted…
-5 math: i’m guessing high 600s

-7 writing with an 8: low 600s

-14 wrong on reading: low 600s
In my humble opinion.

what makes you think that those are your scores, H3lp me? I took the march test today as well and I have no idea what my scores are. I think i perfected the math though. reading ravaged me. i suppose we’ll all see in a couple weeks

CR? Not that bad. Maybe a few wrong here and there. But the experimental CR section threw me off because I had two CR in a row. ><

W? Not too bad. I probably made a few mistakes, but over all, I found this section a little easier than anticipated.

M? I got owned by this section :frowning: I omitted a large number of questions and probably got a few of the ones I answered wrong. I think I got the majority of the ones I answered correct, but…I obviously need months of review on geometry…I don’t remember 9th grade. ;-;

How unfortunate Rixs. My dilemma is exactly opposite yours. I believe I perfected math (trying to bump up my previous 790) finally yet got destroyed by CR. I HATE THAT SECTion. Accursed ADD.

can some one please remember some more quetions, i kanda forgot after i got knocked out, thats what 2 cups of colombian coffe do to u.

@collegehopeful#1- Well, I’m an intended creative writing major, so…yeah. Math is my worst subject. I maintain A’s in the classes, but I find great difficultly retaining concepts I don’t use in later maths, especially when those concepts are twisted logically as they are on the SAT.

Rixs: interesting. I completely agree. I seem to forget more and more of the Geometry concepts when I’m taking courses like BC calc and whatnot. Yeah, I hope to go into the med field. What colleges for your major are you looking at?

Essay: Used the exact same 3 examples I used as last time.
Math: Not too bad; had about 4 I didn’t know but I was able to figure out.
CR: A bit confusing!
Grammar: Not too bad but I fear the easy section was experimental!

math was pretty easy compared to the december test that i took last year.

reading was harder. idk. especially the one with the computer programmer becoming a writer.

writing…i had writing as the experimental. had it on section 1 and probably 4.
i did better on the 4th one than the first one. hopefully the experimental one is the 1st one.

the essay topic was just weird. it was such a simple topic that i got stuck a little.
im stupid. hopefully i get around 1900.

@collegehopeful#1- W&M and UVA for CW, Longwood and UMW for Secondary English Ed., and a long list of possible safeties for English, Journalism, or Foreign language, including:

Radford, GMU, JMU, VCU, and ODU

xD

i had a college student as a proctor. he came in at like 9 and we got started right away. and he didnt even write down the starting and the ending time;; which made it so hard for me to manage my time for the essay. i only got three paragraphs in. one intro, one body, and one conclusion. do you guys think that’ll affect my score a lot?

after the first section, i asked him to write the times. ugh

I practiced some math last night and I was like “Oh. my. God. I am going to fail this.” My book’s about 5 years old though, and it was for the old SAT. Then when I got to the actual test today, I thought it was pretty simple.

Verbal - eee. I even use those SAT Vocab books in school and I still didn’t do that well.

Grammar - flew through it. So easy.

Essay- Don’t get me started. lol
