December 2009 SAT Test Discussion

What'd you guys think?

hey is there still a restriction on discussing? or has it been lifted?

i think it has…did anyone have the grammar question that had
“using futuristic plots as a means of”
was there an error in that sentence??

Overall, the test was pretty easy. For me, the critical reading section was a bit tougher than usual and the writing section was easier than usual.

I found the test easier than the October one. In October I got a 10 on my essay, but I think that this woun’t happen again because the essay topic was harder this time(at least for me). Overall, I hope for a greater score.

hey ok the embargo has been lifted. Let’s start with the experimental section. Which one was it. Was it the one with the long passage about autobiographies or the one about books read by the African american author??

My gosh, the Math sections were 2x more difficult than the November. The Nov one was averaged. My score is yet lower again this time. Why couldn’t they make it averaged or easy at least. -.-

Does anybody know if “Science fiction use futuristic plots as a means of” had an error?

i thought that sentence had no error

I had 6 no errors (E) but I’m sure I got a couple wrong.

Question:

Is it “attempts to become” or “attempts of becoming”

also, how much does a 12 on an essay help if you get ~6 wrong on the MC section of the Writing?

Also What was the experimental for CR?

yeah i also wanted to know the experimental so bad

I think I’m getting a 5 on the essay this time.
Hopefully, I got 600+ on the Writing.

@hopeful

did u have writing experimental?

okay so for CR, I remember having something about limited fame, some guy being in the nature with a flower, chess, orcas, notebook from her grandmother, anime and manga, environmentalist advocates… that’s all I remember.

^^ i didn’t have that one.

i had two sections with 8 sentence completions. In one, there was the passage relating to autobiographies ( why the author writes them or sth). The other one had the passage relating to some Afro-Am personality who read a lot of books.

I had neither of those ^

anyone wanna start an official vocabulary list?

I remember ubiquitous, which was a Direct Hits word

There were only a few sentence completions that I didn’t know, and I think I omitted a total 5 or 6 CR questions (out of 4 sections–one of them was experimental)–one of the sections seemed much harder than the other 3 and I omitted 3 or 4 on it because I couldn’t finish.

What did you guys think of the CR Section? How good do you think the curves will be? (this was the last time that I needed to take the SAT because my CR scores were still a little bit under the middle 50% of a couple of the schools I’m applying to, so CR is the only thing I really care about). Also, what’d you think about the math? It seemed harder than usual…hopefully a big curve? (I’m not too concerned since I have a decent enough score in math, but a little bit high superscore couldn’t hurt…)

writing was so easy… but critical reading was really tough and really made me think. math was alright I thought

The mathematics was much more difficult than the average. I think I omitted more than 12 questions in total. Hopefully 1-2 wrong is still an 800.

Duke09: How do you know which one is experimental?
