March 2012 SAT I Critical Reading Thread

Thank you, Jimmypod. I think we can all agree, barring delusional niceboat, that the undertaking choice was an extremely large stretch based on the passage, not the specific analogy.

Acute= severe
2.signs= indications

accident= circumstance

Guys so have we decided what the answer was for the Chaplin question regarding the funny movie and the hard work went into it? Was it process— outcome or artistic vision---- reality?

Actually now that I think about it…I think I may have put “support an undertaking.” It’s the choice closest to saying that the example supports the author’s basic argument. The example says that people are ok with World Series results because they know the rules. Therefore, if people were educated about the rules surrounding the electoral college, they’d be okay with it.

back = champion

I’m not delusional. Those are just my opinions. I have stated why I chose them.

@hans

process vs outcome

He hates the idea of repeatedly doing takes but loves how they appear on screen.

@yetanother
You basically exemplified what it means to argue against a change.

thanks yank and drac

@hanslee0409 I chose process-outcome
@yetanotherperson You are making a dangerous assumption in filling in a blank that didn’t exist with the insertion of ‘if people were educated about the rules’ whereas the main idea of the passage was about the fact that rules (in this case of the Electoral College) are generally only followed, not understood by all.

is -7(0 omitted) usually above a 700?

yetanotherperson hes not supporting a countrywide education reform to teach about the electoral college process is he?

@drac

I put artistic vision vs reality, but is there a main reason why this choice would be wrong? It can just be the vision or the movie is really good but the reality in making it was very hard

Does the SAS tells you the actual answer or only the letter? (a, b, c, d ,e)?

@Sat200 -7 would exactly be 700 if your lucky

@hans

It was because the passage talked about the author’s disdain for non-natural and perfectionist artistry and how he learned that it was a necessary part of any artist.

In the beginning of the story, he says he hates the boring process of filming but is enthralled when he sees it on the screen.

It doesn’t have much at all to do with vision, more so the process of creation vs. the outcome that one expects.

@SAT

-7 = 700 on most average curved tests.

@drac

Thanks! Now that brings my total down to -3 + 1 omit…

@Hans

Well, at least we aren’t arguing about it. I think I got -3 and 1 omit as well, (crossing fingers that we get a 770)!

so overall how did u guys think this one was compared to jan? if u took it in jan that is

I thought this was tougher tan Jan. I cruiiiiised through january (except for the graveyard passage)

for some reason i thought math and cr was easier and writing was harder
