May I ask what your thoughts are on UMich? I’m from Michigan so I know a ton of people that go there and they’re all really happy and love it there–I haven’t heard one complaint, apart from the weather of course! They all love the sports, social life, and teachers/classes. It’s true, though, that I’ve only ever paid attention to in-state tuition but I’ve always heard that UM is a relatively affordable school.
You have plenty of great acceptances and your number 2 seed decision is coming up, maybe good news
Transferring is always an option, but I’ve heard plenty of stories of people going to colleges that were not their top choices and thriving there as well. It really sucks that financial decisions might have been the difference for you, though. Rutgers, and any of the other colleges in your bracket, would be lucky to have you! Hang in there, @Hawkace, I’m rooting for you!
keep your head up bro, trust me when i say this, the colleges you got into are no inferior institutions.
@Hawkace I know getting rejected is tough. I was rejected from NU too, one of my two top choices…and everywhere else I applied to is more competitive.
But it’s only a few days before everything will be out and I believe in the ivys or CMU accepting you. You have wonderful stats and it’s the schools’ loss for not accepting you.
In the meantime, take pride in your acceptances! UMichigan! The opportunities there are amazing and you’d do really well if you enroll there, or to be honest, anywhere else take pride in your achievements! I’m going to do so too (as I brace myself for pending rejections)! College admissions is not a great indicator of a student’s high school achievements and says even less about the student’s future!
I’m guessing that you will get into CMU and that you got a big scholarship to Northeastern.
Thanks everyone! Two more decisions are coming out in the next two days.
Good luck @Hawkace! Fellow NJ senior here rooting for you (I was hoping I might be able to use the word ‘shore’ to show my Jersey roots but not quite the context for it)! Brown is one of my top choices too, I hope things work out for the both of us!
I can’t imagine how disheartened you must feel, I would definitely go check with your GC to make sure everything is ok. But given that, I think it’s mostly that once you’re in such rarefied air, sometimes the decisions are made and no one really knows why. You seem like a very intelligent, accomplished student, and that’s a pretty great achievement all on its own, and something no college decision can grant you or take away from you.
My guesses are that you’ll get into CMU, Brown and maybe Princeton.
We’re all rooting for you!
@butterfreesnd
Thanks! I’m rooting for you as well. Us Jersey folks need to stick together. Good luck with the rest of your decisions!
I talked to my guidance counselor and he/she was surprised that I was rejected from CMC. He/She’s is going to call them to find out what went wrong. I know that in the end, things will work out.
UC Berkeley is coming out today. I’m not really expecting much, because I have so many good options, but who knows?
@Hawkace
How did Berkeley play? Did the CMU game happen, or was it postponed? I know it was for me
@hungryteenager
The game between CMU and Berkeley is postponed to tomorrow. However, it looks like Berkeley lost their best player and is doomed to lose.
@Hawkace: I’m a mom - and stumbled on your posts in a couple of forums.It appears you have applied to many of the same schools as my son - with similar stats and similar results.I want to say that I admire your sense of humor and I truly hope you keep up your positive attitude. This is a horrible process and is in no way indicative of your worth as a person. My own kid won’t talk with me much about the rejections - and your posts actually remind me that he is dealing with this in his own way. I wish you the absolute best of luck and thank you for your lighthearted posts.
@anothermom2015
Thanks for your post and your support! To be honest, I used to be very stubborn, reserved, and serious, but the last couple of years transformed me. Now, I’m very honest with myself, and carefree. My grades may have slipped a little, but I’m so happy now. I know every person in my school (excluding freshmen, because who has time for that?), and my life is exhilarating. However, these rejections sting a lot, so I tend to rant here, instead of ranting in real life. I barely talk to my parents about my rejections, and they know that I’m dealing with it on my own. I’m happy that you’re doing the same.
Right now, my top choice of the colleges that I have been accepted to is Northeastern.
Sorry, I went off-course, but I appreciate your solace, and I hope that your kid finds their dream school in the schools that he/she were accepted to.
Hmmm… you do remind me of my son! He does act like he is fine - but I KNOW those rejections must sting! I must say though, I really do think your positive attitude and humor will likely get you very far in life. BTW: he seems to be in the same “boat”… at the moment, Northeastern is looking like the leader. Maybe not his (or your) original first choice - but I like to believe that things happen for a reason and that life will work out.
And— I imagine your parents are very proud of you!
@Hawkace
Ah, that sucks. CMU will be playing at midnight for me, so I’ll be happy to see it. I think that the team with the most points at the end will win the game
@hungryteenager
Well, I didn’t really want Berkeley to win, cause they charge so much to come to their games, if you know what I mean.
I just found out that one of my friends got into Stanford, so I’m in a pretty happy mood. Let’s hope that mood stays until tomorrow.
** Update #6**
Well, the 6-game losing streak is snapped with a tie. I got rejected by UC Berkeley. To be honest, I didn’t really want to go there, so I was okay with being rejected. Finally, a college saw something in me. CMU waitlisted me and gave me the opportunity of being priority-waitlisted. I appreciate the offer, but I don’t know whether I’ll be getting any financial aid. All I have left is the Ivies. After the Ivies come out, I’ll update the decisions, and I’ll talk about every college that I applied. I’m starting to open up to the colleges that I have been accepted, especially Case Western Reserve, and Northeastern. To be honest, I view them as sub-tier, but who knows? I might like being a top student at a pretty decent college more than being a decent student at a top college. Anyway, stick around.
Updated Bracket:
- MIT: Rejected
- Brown
- CMC: Rejected
- Princeton
- Harvard
- Northwestern: Rejected
7) CMU: Waitlisted - WUSTL: Waitlisted
- Pomona: Rejected
- Northeastern: Accepted
- UMichigan: Accepted
- UCLA: Rejected
- CWRU: Accepted
14) UCB: Rejected - Rutgers: Accepted
- UMinnesota: Accepted
@Hawkace
Ouch, that stings. I was really pulling for CMU that last round. Unfortunately, their aid likely would have been fairly poor even if they had admitted you. I’m putting my money on Brown for the next round, I hope that they come through.
So, the Ivy decisions are coming out tomorrow. Not expecting much. At this point, I can say with a degree with certainty that I’ll be heading to Northeastern with a Dean’s Scholarship, a travel grant, and in the Honors Program. They really want me, and Northeastern is a fine institution with great co-op opportunities. The only problem is that I haven’t visited the campus yet. I’ll probably visit the campus next Saturday during Admitted Students Weekend. Stick around to see what happens and my introspection on all of my applications.
**Update #7: **
Well, I expected it, and it happened. Rejected from Brown, Harvard, and Princeton. I think that I did something in my application that caused everyone to deny me, but I don’t know what it is. My final record is 5-2-10, which is terrible. I expected to get into one of my reaches, but in the end, it crumbles to pieces. Some of my friends who don’t deserve to go to Ivies ended up being accepted. This is such an unfair process. At this point, I’m even considering taking a gap year just to get my life straight. I know that I said that I’ll be heading to Northeastern, but my heart laid with the top tier colleges. I’m truly heartbroken.

I didn’t get into any of my reaches either with similar~ stats. It’s almost entirely a lottery nowadays and we’re on the losing side. I’m sure we both did our best, sucks man, just know you’re not alone.
