March Madness: Admissions Style!

@dune297‌

Thanks for your support. If you don’t mind me asking, where did you get accepted?

Hey, don’t be down @Hawkace‌! You applied to a lot of reaches and when it comes down to it, applicants in those rooms can have very close stats. Don’t let those rejections affect you that deeply; they don’t define who you are as a person. The schools that you have been accepted to are very good and will provide you with a solid education to move on in life. :slight_smile:

@TheDidactic‌

Thanks, man! How did you do?

Hawkace, I checked back today totally hoping to hear that you got into schools you had wanted. So sorry that things didn’t work out the way you planned. But — please don’t discount Northeastern. The way you describe your personality - I REALLY think it could be just the place for you. The Honors college seems fantastic. There are wonderful new Honors dorms (that are supposed to be Way nicer than most city dorms)… and tons of “perks”. Also - the city is amazing - and with your outgoing personality - the large school seems perfect. Good luck to you and I have no doubt you will be super successful!!!

@Hawkace‌ Accepted into Georgia Tech, UT Austin, and UMiami (Presidential Scholarship). Rejected to Princeton, Stanford, and Harvard. Probably can’t afford Georgia Tech so I’ll probably be going to UT for CS.

@Hawkace You broke my bracket, dude!

Okay, i’ll get over it…

But here’s the thing about you – you’re bright & funny & high-energy & sharp…you’re going to do well no matter where you land…forget about that gap year business…just jump into this…I think Northeastern is a GREAT choice…you will be in Boston…with 240,000 other students (an actual number, btw) and have the time of your life. Get on a plane and attend accepted students day…then come back and tell us about your great future.

@Hawkace‌ What were your stats?

@dune297‌ That’s amazing. UT Austin is a great school and UMiami with a Presidential Scholarship is a real contender.

@anothermom2015‌
I sure hope so. It’s just that my parents are immigrants, so they hoped for somewhere a little more elite. I worked my ass for the last four years to get a college that is everyone’s match college in my school. I don’t know what I’m going to do. UMichigan hasn’t fallen off my radar yet and I could get off the wait list at CMU or WUSTL. I haven’t given up hope, but I lost faith in the process.

@SouthernHope‌
Perhaps. My comments above essentially describes my position. Hopefully, I’ll feel that way when I visit Northeastern.

I’m happy that there are people here who care about my well-being and my future. I’ll never forget what each one of you said, and maybe after 5 years, I’ll check in here to give you all an update. >:D<

@Hawkace‌ Rejected from Cornell today and my other reaches, but it’s all good. I’m headed to a local school where I got merit and, as long as I keep my grades up, will be guaranteed into Ernest Mario. From talking to someone who went to Northeastern for pharmacy, I can tell you that Northeastern is a fantastic place and I believe you will love it there.

If you don’t mind me asking, what physical disability have you had to overcome? I understand if you don’t feel comfortable sharing it.

@hungryteenager‌

Well, it had something to do with my 5 senses. I’m not blind. I can feel with my hands. I can smell alright. I can taste alright. From that information, I’m sure that you can figure it out. :wink:

Ah, OK. I’m glad that you’ve been able to work through it.

Great thread. Good job making it fun. I think your 16th seed is underrated. I am a bit biased, but Minnesota is really a better school than some of the higher seeds. The campus is a lot of fun, too. Enjoy what you have and don’t dwell on what you don’t have. Keep up the great attitude and you will be successful wherever you go.

@Hawkace I was rejected at many places as well. Rejected at Berkeley, UCLA, Northwestern, Penn (where I was a legacy) Columbia, Stanford, and WUSTL. Not even a waitlist at any of them. 2260 SAT, 4.2 W GPA, 800/780/710 subject tests. Maybe it wasn’t high enough. I don’t know. I feel like all my hard work was worth absolutely nothing. I will probably be heading to UCSD or NYU.
Don’t give up though. You can always try to transfer or go to an Ivy for graduate school. At least, that is what my mom is telling me through my tears. I could not bear reading one more 'We are sorry/regret to inform you" today. Because they are not sorry. At all. What canned, phony letters, after all my hard work.

@emmabeanie13‌

Your post is the first honest post that I read today. Thank you. I know what you mean. When I look through the threads, all I find are people who posted that they’ve been accepted to 5 Ivies and don’t have any idea what Ivy to choose. Cross-admits who brag about their decisions are the worst.

@Hawkace‌, I feel your pain. My stats were quite similar to yours and I had very little luck as well (I got into 5 out of 17). I consider myself very fortunate that I got into one of my dream schools yesterday and I will be attending that school, but I suffered in a very similar way that you are now for a long time. I don’t think there’s any way to truly give you any solace - it’s difficult not to feel hard done by. But I do honestly think you have some great options and you will undoubtedly be successful wherever you go.

@insideandout‌

Thank you. Hopefully, I can get off the wait list at CMU and WUSTL, but it’s very unlikely.

I know exactly how you feel. After so many stories of people on here and friends in real life being happily surprised at getting into the last top school they applied to after being rejected/losing confidence I hoped so badly it would happen to me too, but it didn’t. When they’re all like, 'it all worked out in the end!" I’m like, well not for me. At least that’s how I feel.

@tinker‌

Dude, you nailed it. My friends are posting how they got accepted to Harvard, Princeton, and Stanford, and I’m here trying to process the fact that I have to go to Northeastern.
